WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Robert Gates is concerned about the conduct in Afghanistan of the company formerly known as Blackwater and has pledged to review the matter, the Pentagon said on Friday.
Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin had asked Gates to consider blocking a potential $1 billion contract with Blackwater, which recently changed its name to Xe, to train Afghan police because of allegations of misconduct.
"He is looking into it and he takes it seriously," Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell told reporters. "He shares (Levin's) concerns."
